There is a lot to accomplish to have a successful launch when you begin any new program. Just thinking about the to-do list can be overwhelming – so we have broken down the tasks into easy-to-complete time frames. While this list is not an all-inclusive list for your specific school, let this be a guide to ease your burden and stay on track.

We recommend identifying a kickoff date at the beginning of a semester or after a holiday break. Then work backwards from that date using the checklist.

9 Months

  • Check with vendor to check on products and equipment needed
  • Compile data to show the importance of an innovative breakfast program
  • Follow appropriate procurement regulations
  • Set up a meeting with principal, custodians, and school nurse to discuss the new program and identify potential challenges
  • Take a field trip! Bring administration, athletic director, or teachers with you to visit a school district successfully operating a similar school breakfast program

One Month

  • New equipment delivered (if appropriate)
  • Test it! Allow school nutrition staff to test out the recipes
  • Add school breakfast information/release date on website and school newsletters
  • Contact local organizations (or vendor) for any swag/trinkets to provide students

Day Of

  • Make sure student leaders know their jobs
  • Take photos of students trying new recipes and interacting with the breakfast promotion and then add to social media

  • Recognize the student leaders that assisted you with the program
